Hot Shoe

What and Where is the Hot Shoe?

• Location: Small black box on top of the camera, connected to the flash by a spiral sync cord.
• Function: Communicates with the flash, signaling it to fire.

Common Issue

• Flash Won’t Fire: Often related to the hot shoe or sync cord connection.

Initial Checks Before Replacing the Hot Shoe

1. Inspect Sync Cord: Confirm that both ends of the sync cord are fully plugged in and secure.
2. Replace Sync Cord (if still not working): Use a spare sync cord (located in the supply box) and take a test shot.
3. If Flash Still Won’t Fire: Proceed with replacing the hot shoe using the steps below.

Steps to Replace the Hot Shoe

1. Disconnect Sync Cord: Unscrew the metal holder on the sync cord (if present) to remove it from the hot shoe.
2. Remove Hot Shoe:
• Find the spiral dial at the bottom of the hot shoe.
• Loosen it to slide the hot shoe off the camera holder.
3. Get Replacement: Locate a new hot shoe in the supply box.
4. Reconnect Sync Cord: Attach the spiral sync cord to the new hot shoe.
5. Attach and Secure Hot Shoe:
• Slide the new hot shoe onto the holder.
• Tighten the spiral dial to secure it in place.
6. Test Flash: Take a test shot to confirm the flash is firing correctly.
