Headshot Studio Set Up

Equipment

  • M.Pro Kiosk
  • Grey backdrop and frame (unless otherwise noted)
  • Curved reflector + light stand
  • Large umbrella and white diffuser
  • Additional strobe/flash + backdrop clamp

Setup Specifications

  • Set up like a normal M.Pro event, but use the large umbrella, and about 7.5-8ft from the backdrop.
    • To open, put the tip of the umbrella on the floor and cover the top with the white diffuser. Find the hole in the center and reaching through, thread the center umbrella pole through and push the umbrella open to it locks. As your opening it, try to ensure the white diffuser stays wrapped around the perimeter of the umbrella. Once open and locked, stretch the diffuser around the umbrella anywhere it’s needed to ensure it’s covered.
    • To place, like normal, run the pole through the umbrella mount in the strobe/flash. Rotate the umbrella until the hole lines up with the flash and pull the skirting down and around the flash. finally, use the draw string to close the skirting around the flash.
    • The guests should be standing about 36 inches from the camera. Angle the umbrella so that the pole is aimed about where the guest’s eyes should be.
  • Place the curved reflector 12-18 inches from the camera and angle it toward where the guest will stand
    • To set up,
      • Assemble the two curved sides (each uses 3 poles, a center and two ends). Thread them through the long sides of the fabric, ensuring the silver side is the “bowl” of the curve.
      • Unscrew the end wing nuts from the end pieces and thread them through the short ends of the fabric. The extended bolts will go through the curved poles and the wing nuts can be replaced.
      • Add the mount by first placing the reflector, bowl side down on the floor. Unscrew the two wing nuts on the mount and place the mound on the center of the reflector, feeding the two extended bolts through the holes in the poles. Replace the wing nuts.
      • Finally, place the reflector on to a light stand.
  • Place the rear strobe/flash by tightly clamping the mount to the center/top of the backdrop. Run the cord down the back. The guest should be about 2.5 to 3ft in front of the backdrop
