Gratuity

  • Tip buckets, jars, hats, etc. are strictly prohibited.
    – Our compensation structure is designed to reflect the quality of the service we provide, implementing any form of encouragement of guests to tip, undermines the professionalism we strive to provide, discourages photo booth use and can ultimately make guests feel uncomfortable. Because the use of a tip jar could harm an important, ongoing relationship with a planner or venue, any form of encouraging gratuity can be cause for immediate termination.
  • Unprovoked Guest Gratuity is Permitted.
    – If a guest offers you a tip, be appreciative and discreet.
    – If the tip is larger than $10, you MUST split it evenly with anyone else working with you, if applicable.
  • Client Gratuity
    – If the client offers gratuity at the end of the evening, show gratitude.
    – All client tips MUST be split evenly with anyone else working the event with you, if applicable.
    – Reporting tips is not required.
    – Occasionally clients add gratuity to invoice. If this happens, the gratuity will be reflected on your paycheck and reported as gratuity income.
    – Occasionally clients will reach out following an event and request a method to provide a tip to their host. If this happens we provide that client directly with whichever method the host has arranged to accept money and remove Smash Booth entirely from the transaction.
  • Tips for Tips
    – Be gracious. Tips are NOT required and you should NEVER expect a one.
    – If the client is planning on tipping, give them notice and time to prepare it. Let the client know when you have about 30 minutes left. Say something like “Hello, I’ve really enjoyed being part of your celebration. I just wanted to let you to know I’m going to start packing up in about 30 minutes, just in case you wanted to carve out time to take a few more photos.”. Besides giving them the opportunity to take more photos, this also gives them time to get your gratuity ready.
    – The grooms typically have the gratuity. Give the thank you box to the groom or ask him where you can leave it. If there is a prepared tip envelope, the groom almost always has it. This lets him know again that you’re leaving and gives him the opportunity to offer you gratuity.
NEVER ask the client if they have prepared gratuity, or if they plan to tip. This is incredibly unprofessional and would almost certainly result in termination.
